City staff to bring Montview RAISE application support resolution to council; DOLA match sought

Chia Herrickock, a city staff member, told Aurora City's Transportation, Airports and Public Works Policy Committee on Jan. 23, 2025, that staff will bring a council resolution supporting a RAISE grant application for Montview Boulevard directly to the council floor so the city can meet a Jan. 30 application deadline.

"The city is moving forward with a RAISE grant application for Montview Boulevard. The application is due on January 30, so 7 days away," Chia Herrickock said. She told the committee staff plan to request Department of Local Affairs (DOLA) funds to support the city's capital match and that DOLA requires a council resolution of support for the application.

Herrickock said the project, named the Better Montview Mobility Project in staff materials, is intended to improve pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure near the Fitzsimmons campus. "It will provide much needed, pedestrian and bicycle infrastructure to provide more safety and, better enhancements for Montview as it's a main through fair through the campus," she said.

With Chair Sam Hancock's support, staff will place a resolution on the council agenda for the next regular meeting to allow staff to pursue DOLA funds as part of the capital funding plan. Council member Angela Lawson had no questions when staff described the timeline and the request.

This committee discussion notified members of the near-term schedule and the staff plan to seek council support; it did not represent final council approval or an award of grant or matching funds. The RAISE application and any DOLA request will return in council agenda documents and associated funding agreements if staff receive council approval and later awards.
