Corsicana Independent School District staff presented results of a survey on three proposed instructional calendars for the 2025–26 school year that showed strong support for “Option B.”
The presenter told trustees 815 stakeholders participated in the survey, which offered three calendar options that share key dates: a first day of school of Wednesday, Aug. 13; fall break Oct. 6–10; Thanksgiving Nov. 24–28; winter break Dec. 22–Jan. 5; and spring break March 16–20. The options differ on the midwinter (February) break, Easter break and the last day of school. Option C would provide 170 student days; Options A and B would provide 169 days. All options meet the district requirement of 75,600 instructional minutes for the year.
Survey results presented to the board showed Option B with 61% support, Option A with 24% and Option C with 15% among respondents. The presenter said Options A and B would yield about 2.65 banked days while Option C would yield about 3.65 banked days.
Trustees asked whether the district’s “bi week” (the schedule chunking the district follows with alternating weeks) would fall the same way next year; staff responded that the bi week will be the second year of the set and is expected to fall in the same relative spot, but the presenter agreed to verify that timing before the board votes on a final calendar.
The calendar review was informational and not an action item. The board did not vote on a calendar at the workshop.
