The Greeley Evans School District 6 Board of Education reviewed a crowded January–February calendar and shared brief reports on recent school visits and community engagement at the Jan. 13 work session.
Board members noted several near‑term events and asked colleagues to RSVP: a superintendent of the year celebration, Success Foundation events, a GAP (graduation and achievement program) winner graduation, Success in 6 awards, the Greeley Chamber of Commerce annual dinner, and Cultural Assembly events. The board also discussed participation in Colorado Association of School Boards (CASB) Capitol Days and student legislative activities on Feb. 6 and Feb. 13.
Reports from the board
- Director Azari thanked Centennial Elementary School’s staff and principal McDowell after a recent visit and promoted a “Bowl with the Burrows” fundraiser to benefit the Success Foundation, noting student performers would participate.
- Director Bentley described attending Centennial’s student council presentation and a Community Council on Education meeting with representatives from UNC and other local partners.
- Director Campos Fitzy highlighted Project Teacher Find, a 36‑year partnership between the district and the University of Northern Colorado that recruits local teachers; she said applications are due Jan. 24 and encouraged applicants to contact school counselors.
- Director Sullivan reported research into district financial‑literacy offerings and meetings with the superintendent on Jan. 16 about standards and possible broader implementation.
Why it matters: board member visibility at schools and community events informs trustees about classroom conditions, supports fundraising partnerships, and connects students to civic learning opportunities. Several directors urged colleagues to attend the highlighted events when possible.
No formal actions or votes were recorded during the calendar and reports portion of the meeting.
