The Jackson Public School Board approved the district's 2025 test security plan, which district officials said incorporates changes made after testing irregularities and subsequent reviews in 2023.
Doctor Vivarrett, director of student assessment in the Office of Teaching and Learning, told trustees that the district "has moved from a noncompliant status in spring 2023 to a compliant status in spring 2024." She outlined four measures adopted to strengthen test security: using non-homeroom teachers as administrators and proctors, a superintendent'run anonymous reporting hotline during testing windows, collecting and consolidating school-based test-security plans, and heightened district monitoring and audits during testing.
The plan also includes operational changes for spring 2025 testing: assigning each school specific testing days inside the month-long window so district monitors can better deploy auditors and control makeup days centrally. District auditors use the Mississippi Department of Education testing audit form when they visit schools, Vivarrett said, adding that some of these practices were put in place during 2024 MAP testing.
Board members asked clarifying questions about prior irregularities and monitoring; the board voted to approve the test-security plan in open session. The motion carried.
District officials said the steps aim to prevent educator coaching and other improper practices and to provide immediate remediation if potential violations are reported through the hotline.
No additional funding amounts were specified during the presentation.
