The Redondo Beach Budget and Finance Commission voted Jan. 9 to swap its chair and vice chair positions, making Vice Chair Jasmine Allen the commission chair beginning at the commission's next meeting.
Chair Shervin opened the meeting and, citing expanding personal commitments, asked the commission to consider a change in leadership. "During the last few weeks, it's come to my attention that my pre-existing commitments are interfering with my desire to do the quality job that I know we'd all like to have," Chair Shervin said, explaining the request to step into the vice chair role and for Allen to assume the chair.
Commissioners moved and seconded the proposal and took a roll-call vote. The motion passed unanimously (all aye); the commission recorded the change as effective beginning with the next scheduled meeting.
Members said the vote was intended to preserve continuity while accommodating the outgoing chair's stated time constraints. No additional staff direction or budgetary action accompanied the leadership change.
The commission continued with its agenda after the vote.
