Delaware County Library Board introduces two newly appointed trustees and outlines training, reporting and outreach updates

Delaware County Library Board members introduced two appointees chosen by County Council and heard multiple announcements about training and administrative timelines.
County Council appointed Jody Allen and Jessica Brangle to the library board. Jody Allen said she brings about 20 years of bookselling experience and service on various nonprofit boards and expressed interest in helping “strengthen our county library system.” Jessica Brangle, who identified herself as a librarian at Swarthmore College and a lifelong resident of Marple Newtown, said she is “looking forward to serving the county.”
Administrator Annie provided several announcements for trustees and member libraries: registration is open for the Pennsylvania Library Association (PALA) Frontline Online virtual conference on Feb. 5, 2025, which she described as a one-day, affordable continuing-education option for frontline staff; the second annual virtual institute for Friends and Trustees is scheduled for March 15 and is co-sponsored by PA Citizens for Better Libraries and the Pennsylvania Library Association; and the countywide annual report (2020–2024) will open for member libraries in the first quarter of next year with signatures required from presidents and treasurers for submission.
Annie also reminded trustees that audited financial statements or financial reviews for 2023 must be submitted as soon as possible to ensure timely disbursement of state aid. She described the statutory requirement: libraries receiving $50,000 or more in annual state aid must file an audit annually; libraries under that threshold file a financial review in alternate years.
During public comment, representatives from Ridley Township Public Library and Resource Center updated trustees on local activity. Lisa and Judy (Ridley Township Library representatives) said longtime staff member Mary Tobin — head of information services and assistant director — will retire at the end of the year but will continue part time in reference. They also described community programming including a prom-dress giveaway (Feb. 1–2) and free holiday gift-wrapping sessions; they reported the library processed more than 1,300 passport applications through November (they said 1,367 applications submitted through November) and routinely handles over 100 passport applications per month.
Chair Helen and trustees thanked the new appointees and the public commenters. The board also formed a nominations committee to reorganize officers in January and asked volunteers to serve on that committee.
