The Poulsbo City Council voted on March 5 to approve a letter of intent to pursue acquisition of a 1.7-acre surplus parcel from the Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) for $6,600. City staff said the tract is landlocked but adjoins a larger mitigation property the city expects to obtain later; acquiring the parcel would help complete plans for a larger park area on Highway 305 that staff referred to as “Poulsbo Central Park.”
Jeff (presenting staff) told council WSDOT appraised the parcel in January and the city has a first right of refusal. He said park reserves contain the funds but that a budget amendment will be necessary to move money from reserves into an expenditure account prior to closing. Council asked whether the purchase would close in the current fiscal year; staff said they anticipated it would but would follow up with a firm date.
A council motion authorized the Parks and Recreation director to sign the letter of intent to acquire Kitsap County tax parcel 142601-2-033-2006 from the State of Washington for $6,600. The motion passed by recorded ayes (Newell, Mittal, Taber, McVeigh).
