Donald Hall appeared before the Senate Committee on Public Health and Welfare for his confirmation hearing to serve on the University of Kansas Hospital Authority Board of Directors and described his background and the perspective he would bring to the board.
"What you should take away from my statement is that I'm a Kansan, a graduate of the University of Kansas, have been in business for over 40 years and have led a number of civic organizations," Hall said. He said businesses need "a strong independently minded and experienced board who are willing to ask questions and clarify strategies," and that boards must "pay close attention to culture and executive leadership, and they must expect and support change."
Hall acknowledged he is not a medical professional but said his experience in business governance and community service would allow him to contribute perspective on financial viability and organizational culture. "While I am not experienced in the medical field, business governance and community service are very familiar to me and I feel that I can help contribute important perspectives to the board and management team," he said.
The hearing opened with the committee chair welcoming Hall and noting the committee had reviewed his statement and biography. The transcript records no committee vote on confirmation in this hearing.
