Board hears communications update on digital tools; high school reports spring activities and college visits

The Montville Township Board of Education received a communications committee update covering district messaging platforms and student-monitoring tools, and heard a high school representative report on athletics, spring activities and college visits.
Communications committee member Caitlin said the committee reviewed district communication methods, including the superintendent's column and the district newsletter. She said the district is moving from Schoology to Google Classroom following a successful pilot and is planning an initiative called iMonfill to capture district programs. Caitlin also said the district evaluated Gaggle and GoGuardian and has sent a follow-up letter to families clarifying what monitoring tools are used and why, noting the district aims to remain ADA compliant when sharing videos and is exploring platforms that allow video sharing.
During public comment, a parent (Hannah Jinx) thanked the board for the follow-up email about Gaggle, saying the clarification was helpful and that while concerns circulate on social media, she appreciated the district's communication and supports the efforts to keep students safe online.
A high school representative reported winter sports final records (boys varsity basketball 21-6, girls varsity basketball 9-16, varsity wrestling 20-6, boys varsity ice hockey 9-12-1), said spring sports begin practices March 10, and noted the spring musical Big Fish will be performed in March. The representative said MTHS DECA was competing at a state career conference in Atlantic City and that the class of 2025 is collecting photos for a senior sunset montage. The representative also listed colleges that conducted on-site instant-decision visits and summarized acceptances and scholarship offers; presenters said not every student accepts offers and reported scholarship ranges offered during on-site visits (examples cited during the report included offers and acceptance counts for several colleges, with one presenter noting up to $40,000 in scholarship offers from a visiting institution).
