City demonstrates soon-to-launch Gilroy Connect reporting app and bike/pedestrian GIS map

City staff demonstrated two technology projects on March 3: a SeeClickFix-based public service portal the city will brand as "Gilroy Connect," and a new bicycle and pedestrian GIS map ("Gilroy Pathways") paid for with Measure B bicycle/pedestrian funds.
Gilroy Connect: Bryce (city staff) said the web portal and accompanying mobile app will allow residents to report routine public-works and public-space issues, upload photos, and track request status publicly. The portal will send an acknowledgment email to the requester, route requests through department workflows, and escalate to supervisors if service-level agreements are missed. Staff said the public web portal will go live March 31 and the mobile app for Android and Apple is expected in early April. Integration with the city’s CityWorks maintenance system is planned to automate internal work-order creation.
Bike/pedestrian GIS map: Staff showed a web map that combines the city’s planned bike and pedestrian network from the 2040 general plan with points of interest such as bike racks, water fountains and public artwork. The web page includes route planning and amenity information and is intended to encourage active transportation and to host public education content. Staff opened a 30-day public comment window (through April 4) and provided an email address for feedback: rec@cityofgilroy.org.
Why it matters: Staff said Gilroy Connect should increase transparency and responsiveness for routine city maintenance requests; the bike/ped map is positioned as an encouragement and education tool funded from Measure B bicycle/pedestrian funds.
Next steps: Staff will complete final testing, publish Gilroy Connect and continue integration work with CityWorks; the bike/ped page will be finalized after the public comment period.
