Council adopts ordinances on council pay and exotic-animal rules

The Broken Arrow City Council voted to adopt two ordinances: one setting city council compensation and another amending the city’s exotic-animal rules.
Ordinance No. 3851 establishes the compensation schedule for city council members, provides that payments will be made on the same biweekly schedule as city employees, clarifies members are not entitled to deferred compensation, and provides payment will cease upon vacation of the office. The ordinance includes a provision that council will not revisit compensation again until April 1, 2029, unless the governing body chooses to act earlier.
Ordinance No. 3849 amends the city’s exotic-animal ordinance by removing the previously established special committee and deferring determinations to a veterinarian and the department director of animal control. The council also approved the ordinance’s emergency clause so the change takes effect immediately.
Both ordinances were presented by staff, motioned and seconded on the floor, and approved on roll call. No members of the public signed up to speak on either ordinance at the meeting.
