Construction crews ramp up at Middletown Area SD sites; utilities and permits are pacing items, operations staff say

Middletown Area School District operations staff reported that construction activity has accelerated as warmer weather arrived, with masonry and trade crews increasing on-site presence and key inspections completed.
"If anybody passed the construction site, it's very busy," operations speaker Mister Meiser said. "Probably most of the winter, we had maybe 18 people on-site the whole time. Now we have 18 Masons on-site. So, everybody's trying to catch the mason, keep up with the masons, electricians, plumbers, everyone."
Meiser told the board that the operations building's opening remains tied to power and utility work. "Our biggest achille heels are PennDOT and, PPL, which we continue to work with both of them constantly," he said. He added the operations building "could open on time, as long as we have power. So that's our challenge. We won't have a new building with no power."
Meiser said the district received a township acknowledgment related to sewer inspections and reductions in credits held against the district after a recent underground sewer inspection was approved.
Separately, the board approved a correction to a construction change order. The board voted to correct change order HCPCO-1 — previously approved at the Feb. 18, 2025 board meeting — to adjust the HVAC construction contract with Matchline Mechanical from a cost of $3,177 to $3,502.64. That motion carried.
Ending: Operations staff said they will continue coordinating with PennDOT and PPL and completing inspections as scheduling allows; the district will report progress at future meetings.
