Tehachapi police promote Ryan Hals to sergeant; chief highlights investigations and crisis response role

Police Chief Standridge promoted Officer Ryan Hals to the rank of sergeant during the council meeting, citing Hals's investigative experience and role in a planned Eastern Kern crisis response team.
Chief Standridge said Sergeant Ryan Hals served as a field artillery crewman in the U.S. Marine Corps beginning in 2007, graduated from the sheriff's academy and worked as a police officer in California City from 2012 to 2024. "He brings a wealth of investigation experience to us in several high profile and complex cases," the chief said, noting Hals received a life-saving award and holds an advanced POST certificate. The chief said the department hired Hals in August 2024.
Standridge said Hals will be a participant in the crisis response team that the Eastern Kern Law Enforcement Agency is assembling to provide swift response to critical incidents. The chief and council members also noted the department is actively recruiting and filling open positions and said residents should be proud of current hires.
Sergeant Hals acknowledged family in the audience and was pinned during the ceremony; there was no council vote on the personnel promotion.
