Votes at a glance: Frontier Board approves hires, contracts, calendar; moves policies to second reading and nominates BOCES candidates

At its meeting, the Frontier Central School District Board of Education approved a slate of personnel appointments, accepted business reports, approved two short-term transportation contracts, adopted the 2025—26 instructional calendar and moved several policies to a second reading. (Agenda item 8.6) - The board approved support-staff appointments: Mikaela Cruz as a teacher aide at Clover Bank, Jamie Hilts as a school lunch monitor at Clover Bank, and Nathan Schmidt as a laborer at Big Tree in Blaisdell; fingerprint clearances were noted where required. Calendar and business reports - The board approved the 2025—26 district instructional calendar as presented. Motion carried. (Agenda item 9.5) - The board accepted business-management reports for the period presented. Motion carried. (Agenda item 10.1)

Contracts - The board approved a short-term transportation contract with Naomi Root for transport of one student from Feb. 10, 2025, through Feb. 27, 2025, for approximately $252. Motion carried. (Agenda item 10.13) - The board approved a short-term transportation contract with Jackie Bennett for transport of one student from Jan. 1, 2025, through June 26, 2025, for approximately $1,969. Motion carried. (Agenda item 10.14)

Policies and nominations - The board moved multiple policies to a second reading: 61.20 (adopt equal employment opportunity), 62.13 (probation and tenure), 65.50 (leaves of absence), 65.52 (military leaves of absence) and 65.63 (determination of employment status, employee or independent contractor). (Agenda item 11.2) - The board retired policy 61.3 (equal employment opportunity) as no longer required. Motion carried. (Agenda item 11.3) - The board nominated three candidates for election as trustees to the BOCES first supervisory district of Erie County: Mary J. Bussey (West Seneca), Mark Mecha (Amherst/Williamsville) and Cam Hall (Hamburg). All were nominated and motions carried. (Agenda items 11.4—11.5)

All of the listed motions that reached a vote were announced in the meeting and resulted in the board president asking "All in favor? Aye. Opposed? Carried," recording the motion as approved.

Ending: The board moved on to committee reports and other agenda items after recording the votes; staff will process the personnel appointments and contracts as approved.
