District fiscal staff told the board the audit showed fewer findings this year than last. "Last year, we had 18 findings out of a 40. This year, it was 13," Mr. Sotto said, adding that the change reflects corrective steps taken by staff.
Board members said the compliance portions of the audit deserved particular attention. Officials identified several recurring areas for correction, including property-control records, student-reporting items at the new student center and an overstatement in a transportation-related item. Mr. Sotto said the district will continue to implement auditors' recommendations and follow up with the departments responsible for the findings.
Board members asked for clarifying detail on several findings, and Mr. Sotto and other staff agreed to provide follow-up information. The board requested a summary of compliance items and the steps taken to resolve each finding.
A motion to accept the audit was made and seconded; the board approved the audit on a roll-call vote with all members voting yes.
The acceptance concludes the district's formal review of the auditor's report issued for the 2023'24 fiscal year. Staff noted many findings were sample-based (auditors review limited records and report exceptions found within those samples), and said the district had already begun correcting the specific items noted by auditors.
Board members and staff said they will return later with documentation showing corrective steps and status updates for the compliance items that generated audit findings.
