Board approves moving high school and Aldridge flooring projects to full board; lowest combined bid $70,494

Director of facilities staff (presentation by Mr. Brickell) told the Business Operations & Finance Committee that interior finishes at Beloit Memorial High School and Aldridge Middle School are worn and pose safety and sanitation concerns: hallway ground‑floor carpeting at the high school dates to 1994 and Aldridge’s auditorium carpet showed tears and transition‑point trip hazards.
Brickell said the district issued an RFP on Jan. 9 for polished concrete at the high school ground floor and carpeting replacement in the Aldridge auditorium. Three contractors attended the mandatory walkthroughs and two submitted bids. The lowest combined bid was from Mako’s Commercial Interiors (formerly Halvorsen’s) at $70,494 for both projects.
Committee members and public commenters supported moving the item to the full board; Brickell confirmed the work is budgeted in the current fiscal year and scheduled for summer 2025 to avoid disrupting summer‑school programming and to take advantage of Aldridge being vacant during its roofing project.
The Business Operations & Finance Committee voted to move the recommendation to the full board, and the full board approved the flooring project as part of the consent agenda.
