Butterfield said station crews use water around the clock at levels higher than typical residential use, and the department wanted to be proactive in addressing the buildup.
Council moved and seconded the measure and approved the amendment by voice vote; council members recorded as voting in favor included Councilman Cavanagh, Councilwoman Little Roberts, Councilman Taylor, Councilman Overton, Councilwoman Strader and Councilman Whitlock. The motion passed and the fire department may proceed with procurement of the softener.
