Broomfield Police launch co‑responder team, report drop in vehicle thefts

The police also completed a community listening tour that included an online survey, in‑person sessions and a business feedback forum; police conducted eight community listening sessions with audiences including teens, Spanish speakers and detention center inmates. “The BPD will be reviewing the feedback collected and identifying next steps,” the mayor said; a final report is expected later in the year.
On crime trends, the mayor said the department added a specialized crime analyst position and created a special enforcement team (SET). Through partnerships, including with the Colorado Auto Theft Prevention Authority, Broomfield distributed steering wheel locks and catalytic converter etching kits and hosted events to upgrade vehicle security. The mayor said motor vehicle theft declined about 30% in 2024 compared with 2023 and that catalytic converter thefts had “drastically decreased.”
Ending: The mayor highlighted ongoing community policing efforts and said the department participated in more than 215 community events in 2024.
