Amy Fogel, a resident who visited the animal and had planned to adopt, said the shelter's staff told her the dog would likely be adopted at an event and that she could not pay to hold the animal. "I asked if we could pay money to hold her, and they said we can't do that and that she get adopted at an event," Fogel said. She said the dog later exhibited vomiting and diarrhea and she learned the dog had died; an internal diagnosis given to commenters was pyometra.
