The commission approved a certificate of appropriateness for a new 22‑by‑22‑foot garage at 3002 West Kilbourn Avenue in a historic district, subject to staff conditions on materials and detailing.
Staff described the proposed gabled garage with an overall height of approximately 19 feet 5 inches, an insulated steel panel garage door, LP SmartSide engineered wood siding and a proposed cedar‑shingle gable. Staff noted that Historic Preservation Commission has historically not approved LP SmartSide as a visible cladding and recommended visible siding be untreated clapboard, smooth fiber‑cement siding with 6‑inch exposure or cedar where appropriate. Staff also recommended cedar shingles in gables to match the house, addition of a water table and a hood/molding above the garage and personnel doors, and other standard conditions.
Commissioners agreed the scale and massing were compatible with neighboring garages and moved to approve the proposal with the staff‑recommended material and detailing conditions. The motion passed on a voice vote.
