Council Member Pilgrim asked the council during the March 4 meeting to place a review of the mayor pro‑tem selection on a future agenda, saying he believes the prior selection may have been procedurally invalid.
Pilgrim said he reviewed past meeting recordings and minutes and asserted that at the prior meeting the council conducted nominations rather than making a formal motion and that one council member was prevented from offering an additional nomination. "In my opinion...the election that we had for mayor pro tem was an invalid election," Pilgrim said. He requested that council treat the matter as a future agenda item so it can be discussed in the proper forum and, if necessary, rescinded or re‑voted.
City staff advised that a request for a future agenda item can be made orally to the mayor or staff and that the appropriate remedy to reverse a prior action would be rescission if the council chooses to pursue it. The mayor said she would add Pilgrim's item as a future agenda request.
No vote or rescission was taken at the March 4 meeting; council members agreed to schedule the item for a future meeting so the council can consider Pilgrim’s procedural concerns.
