Rachel Tennant, Fort Pierce Utilities Authority director of public affairs and sustainability, presented FPUA the board with FPUA's first magazine-style annual report covering fiscal year 2024, which the presentation described as October 2023 through September 2024. The report collects department-submitted highlights, selected performance indicators pulled from the budget book, photos and employee testimonials and special features such as the wastewater treatment facility relocation.
Why it matters: the report is intended to "humanize FPUA" for customers and present a concise, accessible summary of operations, projects and community programs, the presenter said. The utility will prioritize a digital edition with a limited print run and plans to distribute a copy to every FPUA employee.
The presentation outlined the report's structure: leadership and history; strategic plan; customer experience; individual utility spreads (electric, water, wastewater, natural gas, fiber); a special feature on the WRF (water reclamation facility) relocation; workforce and recruitment highlights; and community engagement. Tennant told the board the report was developed over six to eight months using standardized questionnaires from each department and performance data from finance's annual budget book.
By-the-numbers examples called out during the presentation include 230 customer rebates processed in the fiscal year, nearly 28,000 in-person payments at the customer service lobby, 58,000 customer calls, about 1,400 job applications processed and roughly 40 interviews scheduled for about 50 job openings. The report also highlights FPAnet Wi-Fi locations and provides QR codes linking to construction updates for the WRF project and to FPUA job listings.
Tennant noted outside support from VanCor Jones Communications on the report and related communications. She said the report aims to offer an approachable summary while directing readers to technical documents such as the budget book and ACFR for deeper detail.
Board members responded positively in brief comments, praising the report's look and emphasis on employees and community engagement. The board did not take a formal action on the report; the presentation concluded with the director answering questions and describing distribution plans.
