Huber Heights staff told the City Council during the March 4 work session that they will seek bids to resurface tennis courts at Tom Cloud Park and will present a contract award for a new multi-sport court system at Community Park.
Aaron (staff) described the multi-sport system as a composite, interlocking tile surface that lays over existing asphalt and can be removed or repaired tile-by-tile if the ground heaves. "We think the maintenance will be...easier to last longer and provide a better playing surface," Aaron said, noting the surface is convertible from basketball to pickleball for high-play days. He said the system sits about "an inch or so" above the current surface and that the expected warranty/life-expectancy is about 20 years.
For Tom Cloud Park tennis courts, staff requested permission to solicit bids for resurfacing (4'6 courts depending on pricing) and reported the city received a $5,000 grant from the U.S. Tennis Association to help defray costs. Staff said the composite multi-sport tiles can be installed quickly once on site, with subsurface milling and leveling the longer part of the work.
Council members asked about prior material problems on existing courts, security in parks and camera pilot options, life expectancy and installation timelines. Staff said they will follow up with the council about material comparisons and lead times; no contract was awarded at the work session. Both the tennis resurfacing bid solicitation and the multi-sport court contract will be placed on the March 10 council agenda for action.
