Board approves contract for county IT strategic plan

The Board of Supervisors authorized the county to contract with Virtual IT Inc. to develop an IT strategic plan. The contract is a fixed-price agreement of $49,620 (within the previously budgeted $49,990 appropriation) and is expected to take approximately five months.
County staff said the consultant will assess Amherst County’s IT infrastructure, disaster recovery and continuity of operations, and meet with each department and the board to identify priorities, costs and an implementation timeline. The consultant will produce prioritized recommendations with estimated implementation timeframes and costs. County staff clarified that the scope includes certain constitutional offices that rely on county IT services (the presentations said the treasurer and commissioner of revenue were among those included) but not offices with separate IT arrangements such as the sheriff.
Supervisor Pugh moved to authorize execution of the contract; the motion passed on a voice vote. Staff said project kick-off and department interviews will begin and that staff and the vendor will present progress to the board as the plan advances.
