The Abilene Planning and Zoning Commission approved a request to rezone about 2.5 acres at 4397 Crawford Drive from heavy industrial to light industrial, city planning staff said.
Mason Teegarden, division manager for the planning department, presented the request and said the site is surrounded primarily by light industrial zoning except on the east. He said staff notified property owners within 200 feet and received no responses in favor or opposed. “The request is consistent with the comprehensive plan, surrounding uses and zoning, and the criteria for approval,” Teegarden said. Staff recommended approval.
A commission member asked whether the rezoning would allow uses the property owner could not undertake under heavy industrial zoning; the response given was “auto sales.” Teegarden said the existing environmental services business on site would remain and that the use is allowed in light industrial zoning.
After no public comment, a motion to approve the rezoning passed on a roll call. The commission record shows unanimous yes votes from commissioners present; the motion carried.
The rezoning changes the property’s allowable uses to those enumerated under light industrial zoning; any new use will still be subject to applicable city regulations and permits.
