Facilities committee reports CES move‑in timeline and recommends two roofing contracts for Phase 1 work

At the Colonial School District facilities committee meeting on March 3, staff provided an update on the CES (elementary) renovation and requested the board consider two Phase 1 roofing contracts for elementary and high school work.

Facilities staff said general contractor cleaners will begin first‑floor cleaning this week, terrazzo waxing is scheduled for the weekend, and furniture delivery for the first floor is expected the following Monday. Staff said they are targeting a temporary certificate of occupancy with the township on March 31 to test life‑safety systems, and that they hope to return to the regular boardroom for the May meeting once the boardroom is cleared and systems are tested.

On roofing, staff recommended awarding White Marsh and Ridge Park Elementary work to Jotun Roofing for a combined $785,518 and awarding the high‑school portion to Mun Roofing for $1,282,000. Staff said bids were procured through the CoStars process and that the combined award is under the amount the district had budgeted (budget reference in the meeting was not precisely stated). Staff said using two vendors helped secure competitive pricing and staggered schedules to limit disruption.

Facilities staff said they will present a prioritized multi‑year roofing plan to the board in coming months to spread work across years rather than replacing many roofs in the same summer. The committee moved the roofing award recommendations forward for board consideration and will return with a multi‑year plan for district roofing priorities.
