Developer meeting for Kwik Trip set for March 13; plan commission to review first code-rewrite elements next month

City staff told the Janesville Plan Commission on March 3 that the developer for the Kwik Trip at 254 West Memorial Drive plans a neighborhood informational meeting on Thursday, March 13, from 5 to 6 p.m. in the program room at the Hedberg Public Library. Staff said the meeting is developer-hosted; city staff will attend to answer questions about the public review process and land development codes. The program room capacity provided by staff is 134 people.
Staff described the proposed rebuild and expansion as requiring acquisition of adjacent properties to the south to assemble a site large enough for the proposed store, fuel island canopy and fuel dispensing facilities; staff said the proposed location would not include a drive-through car wash and that the developer’s planned store would not include a liquor-store component similar to some larger Kwik Trip locations.
Staff also said that at the plan commission’s next meeting the commission will immediately follow regular business with a review session on the land-use code rewrite. The first three elements to be reviewed are the land-use table of activities, dimensional standards and land-use definitions; staff committed to provide materials at least one week in advance and suggested rescheduling if materials could not be distributed in that timeframe.
No formal action was taken; staff asked commissioners to attend or notify staff if they would miss the next meeting.
