Bayway transit honored as Florida's outstanding system of the year

Bay County and its transit provider Bayway received the Florida Public Transportation Association's 2024 outstanding system award; the county and Transdev staff were recognized at the March 4 commission meeting.
Bay County's transit system, Bayway, was recognized March 4 by the Florida Public Transportation Association (FPTA) as the 2024 outstanding system of the year.
Lisa Bacot, executive director of the FPTA, presented the award at the commission meeting and said Bayway won for a combination of safety, service improvements, customer service efforts and innovative programs such as micro‑transit and flex services. Bacot described the award as competitive among more than 40 transit systems in the state.
A local driver who identified himself as a WheelCare driver and nonmedical transportation operator also addressed the meeting to praise Bayway's service, citing reliable pickups, secure wheelchair tie-downs and strong performance when coordinating with medical providers.
The commission congratulated the transit division and its contractor, Transdev, during the presentation.
Ending: County leaders said they appreciated the partnership with Transdev and the transit division's continued focus on safety and community service.
