Bay County awards $6.524 million contract for DuPont Bridge subaqueous water main

County staff said the new line will be installed approximately 120 feet below the mud line and increase the pipe diameter from 16 inches to 24 inches, providing additional capacity for Mexico Beach and Kendall Air Force Base.
"This line size goes from a 16 inches to a 24 inches so it will allow for additional capacity for both Mexico Beach and [Kendall Air Force Base]," the presenter said. Commissioners asked staff for estimates of how many additional homes the larger diameter would serve; staff responded that a precise housing-capacity number was not provided at the meeting.
The project received questions about cost trends: staff said earlier estimates approached $9 million but that market shifts brought the bid to $6.524 million. The contract was approved on a roll-call vote recorded by the clerk.
Ending: County staff and utilities will proceed with contract execution and necessary contract modifications as approved by the county attorney.
