The Galveston Planning Commission voted unanimously March 4 to approve a request to construct a large-scale single-family residence at 11395 Beachside Drive, subject to staff recommendations.
Staff presented that the property is in Beachside Village Section 4, Lot 430 (0.3488 acres) and provided surveys, contour lines and proposed drawings. Staff reported the distance from the north toe of the dune to the proposed structure is 26 feet and the distance from the line of vegetation is 78.74 feet. According to cited Bureau of Economic Geology materials, the area is accreting at an estimated 8 feet per year.
The applicant introduced himself and offered to answer questions: "I'm the applicant, and if you have any questions, I'm here to answer them," he said. No members of the public spoke in opposition.
A commissioner moved to approve "24BF-137 with staff recommendations"; a second was recorded and the motion passed unanimously. The commission did not record individual vote names in the meeting transcript. Staff will implement the conditions in the staff recommendation as part of the permit process.
