Commission denies rezoning for heavy‑driver mechanic shop on Newcomb Drive

Staff told commissioners that Newcomb Drive functions as a paper or unpaved street and would need to be completed to provide safe access; commissioners raised concerns about heavy-truck access, local street condition and the subdivision's ability to absorb truck traffic.
A voicemail from a lot owner in the neighborhood noted poor street conditions and said residents purchased property for residential use. Other callers who live nearby also opposed adding commercial truck-servicing uses in an area where streets are not fully developed and where residents reported existing damage from heavy vehicles.
Commissioner Taylor Watson moved to deny the rezoning consistent with staff and the Planning Commission’s recommendation. Commissioner Rob Sipes seconded the motion and the commission approved the denial on a roll-call vote. The denial will be forwarded to city council with the commission recommendation.
