Council elects two representatives to Volunteer Firefighters Dependents Fund board

On March 3, 2025 the Vandalia City Council unanimously approved Resolution 25-R-15, electing two council members to serve on the city’s Volunteer Firefighters Dependents Fund review board and establishing an annual election procedure. Council voted 7-0 to elect Vice Mayor Mike Blakesley and Councilwoman Amber Avalotus Weaver (listed in meeting materials as Avalotus Weaver) as the city’s representatives.
City staff explained the fund’s statutory basis. Rob Kron told the council the Ohio Volunteer Firefighters Dependents Fund “is established in the Ohio revised code chapter 146” and that the Vandalia Division of Fire must annually hold a review board election in accordance with ORC 146. The resolution sets an annual election process to meet that requirement.
The motion was moved by Councilman Follick and seconded by Councilwoman Avalotus Weaver. The roll call recorded each council member voting yes; the clerk announced the motion passed 7-0. The resolution does not appropriate funds; it establishes the method for selecting the municipal representatives to the state-administered dependents fund review board.
Council members briefly noted they hope not to have to convene the fund board but said the election is a routine, required administrative step to ensure compliance with state law.
