At the retreat, Hideout communications efforts and a draft 2025 public-relations plan were presented and discussed, with an emphasis on replicating the local coverage earned by the Ross Creek open house.
Consultant Helen Langan told the group the town set “a measurable goal… to get between 10 and 12 positive news stories about Hideout over the course of the year,” and outlined a program of press releases, targeted media pitches and quarterly open-house events tied to topics likely to attract reporters. She said the Ross Creek event produced multiple local stories and that deliberately timed public events could be used to draw further coverage.
The immediate plan discussed at the retreat calls for a Q1 press release/announcement of the general plan, followed by a targeted media pitch on wildfire preparedness and defensible-space work. The communications work includes a website redesign for improved functionality, a monthly “newsroom” coordination meeting for staff and three additional open-house events in later quarters focused on topics such as trails and outdoor amenities, wildfire mitigation/defensible space, and follow-up work on Ross Creek. Langan said the wildfire topic is especially timely and could be pitched as part of a regional angle to outlets that cover wildfire risk.
Staff and council discussed partnership opportunities with surrounding jurisdictions and developers; participants suggested inviting Summit County, Park City partners and property owner representatives to joint events. The discussion noted available technical wildfire data the town has obtained and urged making homeowners aware of available property-level wildfire-audit services from the fire department.
Ending: Town officials directed staff to finalize the Q1 press release and wildfire pitch, to begin website improvements and to schedule the first of three open houses. Materials from the Ross Creek open house and media links will be used as examples for future events.
