VFW honors Del City Green Shift firefighters and an officer for life-saving and public-service actions

Del City—s VFW Post 9969 presented awards to members of the Del City Fire Department Green Shift and to a police officer at the March 3 council meeting.
Gordon Wheeler of VFW Post 9969 read certificates recognizing the Green Shift for lifesaving actions on April 20, 2024, when firefighters responded to a severe crash with multiple victims, worked to free children trapped in wreckage and provided life-saving care during transport to hospitals. Wheeler read the names of the recognized personnel and presented a National Lifesaving Award and a state-level citation.
The council also approved a presentation recognizing Officer Matthew Lisenby with the VFW Public Servant Award for deploying a department drone and using thermal imaging to locate a missing child in Ray Trent Park on Feb. 9, 2024, and directing officers to the child—s location. The council voted to approve the presentation and VFW representatives read certificates and commended the honorees.
Council members rose to honor the personnel and the mayor and trustees endorsed motions to approve the presentations; the council recorded unanimous approval for both items.
