Town board approves standardized onboarding and offboarding checklist for employees

The Grand Island Town Board approved a standardized pre‑hire onboarding and offboarding checklist presented by Corinne, who said the form will reduce errors when employees — especially seasonal part‑time hires — need access to town systems and equipment.

Corinne described the checklist as a pre‑hire tool department heads will complete so technology access, gas cards and building access are set up or removed promptly. She said part‑time summer employees who do not need email or office access would be marked "N/A," while those who require accounts would be listed so the payroll and IT clerks can add them before arrival.

Board members asked that the checklist not replace formal employment‑related items such as salary schedules, I‑9s and civil service forms. Peter, a staff member, said the checklist addressed pre‑hire logistics and that the payroll clerk maintains a separate checklist used after board approval. Corinne said she will assemble the full packet for the board that includes the pre‑hire checklist plus the payroll clerk’s onboarding steps.

The board indicated informal approval at the workshop: "It's been approved then, guys," and staff will move forward to implement and adjust the checklist based on department feedback. No separate ordinance or salary changes were adopted at the meeting; those remain subject to the town's ordinary hiring approvals.
