Wilson County renews franchise allowing Rescue Squad to operate ambulance service

The Wilson County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved renewal of the franchise agreement that authorizes the Wilson County Rescue Squad to operate ambulance services in the county following a public hearing Monday evening.
The franchise renewal drew a presentation from county staff explaining that the Rescue Squad submitted a complete application that was advertised and made available for public review. The county department recommended renewal, citing the Rescue Squad's long history of service and its cooperation with Wilson County EMS.
During the public hearing, Rescue Squad volunteer Cecil Patterson described nearly five decades of service. "It has come a long ways in that time frame," Patterson said, and thanked county leaders and EMS staff for improved cooperation. Michael Cobb of Wilson County EMS presented the agreement to the board and answered procedural questions.
No members of the public objected during the hearing. A commissioner moved and seconded approval; the board voted in favor with no recorded opposition. Commissioners also recognized two long-serving volunteers during the meeting and invited applause.
The renewal preserves the existing local arrangement for ambulance service delivery; the renewed agreement will reference the prior meeting dates noted in the staff presentation. The county manager and EMS staff said the renewed franchise will remain subject to the terms in the written agreement provided to the board and available for public inspection.
