Board members discuss Adams County Technical Institute planning; officials say feasibility study drives options

We are simply looking at what this looks like, and we haven't even had a chance... to even begin to put numbers together," a JOC representative said.
Board members discussed ideas reported in county meetings, including repurposing existing vacant buildings such as the North Hanover Mall or creating satellite campuses where member districts host particular trades. One board member cautioned that North Hanover Mall is in York County and said Adams County funds should not be used across county lines.
Officials said any planning must be driven by student programming rather than available facilities. They also said an authority was formed to evaluate land purchase options and that a $500,000 county grant was given to assist with potential land purchase; that grant was described as targeted to land acquisition and not to buy a building.
The Joint Operating Committee (JOC) and superintendents continue to gather information; officials encouraged public attendance at JOC meetings to ask questions and said no final decisions or land acquisitions have been completed. The JOC meeting date was announced on the record as March 26 at 5:30 p.m.
Ending: Officials said more detailed plans and financial numbers will be presented to member districts when land or conceptual designs are available; until then, the process remains in information-gathering and coordination with legislators, member districts and stakeholders.
