The Central School District 13J Board of Directors on March 3 proclaimed March 2025 as Classified Employee Appreciation Week, reading a resolution that praised classified staff for school operations, safety, nutrition services and direct student support.
Denise Chase, identified as president of OSEA Local 124, thanked the board and superintendent for the resolution and described the role classified employees play in students’ day-to-day school lives: "Whether in the classroom, playground, cafeteria, or hallways, we're constantly providing tools for students to use in their day to day education and in life," Chase said.
Danielle Dunn, an instructional assistant at Central High School and secretary for the local union chapter, described classified staff contributions to extracurricular activities and the district’s unified sports team. Dunn told the board the unified team recently placed second at an event hosted at Oregon State University and that classified employees support field trips, after-school activities and student nutrition programs.
Board members thanked classified staff and invited applause. The district’s public agenda included this recognition as part of the meeting’s opening business.
OSEA Local 124 and district leaders also noted that classified appreciation week events and local recognition are coordinated with the district calendar.
