Casa Grande Union outlines fee-based summer school, early childhood program and supports for Gila River students

A grant-funded program aimed at supporting Native American students from the Gila River community is planned for May 27 to June 12 and will invite students in grades 8–12, the district said. Staff described that offering as focused on helping students feel welcome on campus and said grant funding would cover the program's costs.
Separately, the district described an early childhood center summer camp set for June 2–26, running 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Staff said they plan to hire a preschool director, a lead teacher and two part‑time assistants and to involve recent graduates in supporting preschool activities.
The presenter also noted the district is monitoring state legislation affecting student cell‑phone use after a House bill passed 41–18; staff said they will review the final language if the Senate takes up the measure. Staff reported progress on a secondary‑education task force and student outcome measures: about 80% of seniors completed a required interview, about 80% took the ASVAB test (with 27% reaching a score of at least 35), 43% had applied to post‑secondary education, 7% had acquired a letter of recommendation and 45% had completed a resume.
The staff presentation included school event briefings and recognitions: district staff noted large participation in a recent band gala at Vista Grande High School and congratulated Casa Grande Union teams that advanced to state‑level playoff competition.
