Pennridge FBLA seeks district support to send 15 students to state conference

Lea Ford, president of the Pennridge High School chapter of Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA), and Ariana Porter, the chapter’s vice president, asked the Pennridge curriculum committee to fund student participation in the state FBLA conference in Hershey, Pennsylvania, scheduled April 6–9, 2025. Ford introduced the request and Porter described the proposal.
"We are here on behalf of the Future Business Leaders of America ... to request your support in allowing our team to attend the VA FBLA state conference in Hershey PA from April 6 to April 9 of the year 2025," Porter said. The club requested $2,500 from the district to help cover student costs for 15 students so "all 15 of our members have the opportunity to participate ... without having any financial barriers," she said.
Porter told the committee the student delegation ranges from grades 9 through 12 and that two FBLA advisors will chaperone the trip: Tyler Bingham and Adam Tater. She said the total per-student cost is $150, covering transportation, lodging and registration, and that the club has already raised about $500 from earlier fundraisers and expects additional proceeds from planned events (a McDonald’s fundraiser and a 3-on-3 basketball tournament that raised $650 in a previous year).
Porter described security and safety measures: paid security at conference venues and hotels, nightly monitoring and strict curfew rules for students. She also said deposits for hotels and registration are refundable under the conference’s cancellation policies.
Committee members asked about fundraising progress, how students qualify to attend and whether every qualifying student who wanted to go would be able to do so. Porter said students qualify by placing in the top six on a subject-area test given in December and that all qualified students who wanted to go would be included. A staff member noted the district will “work with Mr. Keddy to make sure that we’re fully funded,” and board members offered general support and encouragement for the students.
No formal vote or funding decision was recorded in the committee discussion during this meeting.
