The council disclosed the settlement at the start of its public meeting after a closed session. City Attorney reported the council’s action and said the vote was unanimous. “City council approved a settlement of $200,000,” the city attorney reported.
Under the city’s disclosure, a motion to approve the settlement was made by Councilmember Aguilar and seconded by Councilmember Verus Walton; the clerk reported the vote as 7-0. The city said the details of the settlement agreement will be available within 60 days and directed interested parties to contact the city clerk for a copy.
The council did not discuss the substance of the settlement in open session. The council’s announcement identified the closed-session agenda item as Benton Court v. the city and listed the categories of alleged claims resolved by the payment.
The council returned to other business after the announcement; the clerk indicated records related to the settlement will be posted or made available following the 60-day period described by staff.
No protests or policy actions regarding the settlement were recorded in the public portion of the meeting.
