Council approves several parking and transportation measures, debates neighborhood notice for EV chargers and loading zones

Director Weber responded that the proposed unit would be identical in size to existing Volta stations and that the public hearing served as the public notice; he said no additional neighborhood letters are sent. “There’s no letters being sent to the neighborhood,” Weber said.
Councilmember Jabbour and other council members urged staff to consult neighbors prior to installations. Jabbour described a prior installation near Columbus Park where residents complained about brightness; staff said brightness can be adjusted after installation.
The council also considered an ordinance amending Hoboken City Code chapter 190 to update parking for persons with disabilities; council discussion identified multiple amendments, and the council voted to carry certain items forward and approve the remainder on first reading with two specific “general” amendments retained for later consideration.
An ordinance designating new loading zones on Newark Street (between Hudson and Washington), Garden Street (between Third and Second) and River Street (between Hudson Place and Newark Street) was presented and approved; council members said loading zones will convert to parking overnight and aim to relieve short-term delivery and pick-up congestion in commercial stretches.
Council approved a resolution entering into an agreement with the City of Jersey City to administer a Safe Streets for All supplemental planning grant. Director Weber said the grant will fund an ADA transition plan and an update to Hoboken’s Vision Zero action plan; work that requires council action will be brought back for formal approval.
Public commentators repeatedly asked whether residents receive advance notice when the city places curbside infrastructure that removes parking; council members advised residents to check with neighbors and contact council offices for ward‑level outreach.
