Destination Caldwell presents plan for permanent LED display on Indian Creek Plaza stage

Danae Warren, representing Destination Caldwell, told the Caldwell City Council on March 3 that the downtown business improvement district (BID) strongly supports installing a permanent, double-sided high-resolution LED video display on the Indian Creek Plaza stage.

The presentation, given as an informational item, described a trial display used at last year’s rodeo that drew crowds and boosted nearby business activity. Warren said Destination Caldwell will fully fund the installation through its savings and board approval; she asked the council for support to bring the item back for formal action at a future meeting.

The proposal calls for a two-sided, weatherproof LED screen facing Kimball Avenue to be used for live programming, sporting-event watch parties, business-directory displays and other community events. Warren said the product is visible in direct sunlight and automatically adjusts brightness. Aaron Vance of Superior Science accompanied the presentation and was available to address technical questions.

Mayor and council members asked procedural and scheduling questions. Council members were told the item will appear on a future consent calendar as an action item; the mayor clarified that making the display a permanent fixture of the stage will require an amendment to city ordinance.

Because the presentation was listed as information only, the council took no vote on the installation at the March 3 meeting. Destination Caldwell representatives stated they will return with the formal request and the ordinance language needed to authorize a permanent installation.

The item will be placed on a future council agenda for a decision and related ordinance action.
