Council approves $3.26 million 2025 street reconstruction plan

Cedar Falls City Council voted unanimously March 3 to adopt plans, specifications, form of contract and an estimated cost of $3,261,687 for the 2025 Street Reconstruction Project, which covers six locations across the city.
City staff described the project during a public hearing as including approximately one mile of roadway repair, about 7,800 square yards of pavement removal and replacement, 1,300 tons of asphalt, replacement of driveway approaches, pedestrian ramps and other storm and sanitary sewer adjustments. “The total estimated cost for this project is $3,261,687,” city speaker Rickey (presenting staff) told council.
The project map presented to council showed a mix of street reconstruction and asphalt overlay work, as well as some trail work and miscellaneous repairs. Staff said the project will be funded by local option sales tax, the street construction fund, the sanitary sewer rental fund and general obligation bonds.
No members of the public spoke on the item during the hearing. Council members thanked staff for outreach and for addressing drainage concerns linked to a Bluff Street repair and a Lone Tree project included on the list.
The resolution passed on roll-call with all members voting in favor, and staff indicated the project will move forward to the bidding and contract phase under normal municipal procurement procedures.
