Halifax Community College outlines programs and asks county to maintain funding level

A representative from Halifax Community College highlighted the Northampton County Early College, noting the early college students make up about 26% of the college’s enrollment and that the institution supports dual-enrollment pathways that allow students to earn college credits and stackable credentials.
The college representative said the school recently received roughly $1.4 million to expand nursing and added an evening/weekend practical nursing option. The college also described a new dental assistant program to complement an existing dental hygiene program, workforce training through the Ford ACE program and an apprenticeship effort supported by local employers.
The presenter noted a roughly $2 million Department of Education grant to establish an academic success center and described recent investments in ADA compliance, admissions and financial-aid office renovations and site improvements.
The college requested that the board consider a 2025–26 appropriation aligned with the share of students from Northampton County, which the presenter said represented about 26% of the college’s enrollment; the prior-year appropriation represented about 17% of the county budget, the presenter said.
Commissioners thanked the college for the presentation and were invited to upcoming events, including the early college groundbreaking.
