Commissioners discussed candidate neighborhoods and suggested locations be limited to walkable, designated historic areas or porches of designated homes, mentioning Oak Hickory (central, walkable from downtown), Bell and West Oak as possibilities. Commissioners said the event should be walkable from porch to porch and suggested starting with a small number of porches (for example four) and multiple musical genres.
Commissioners asked staff to add the porch-fest idea to the matrix and to return with a plan and potential partnerships; staff indicated the item would be brought back for discussion and that sooner scheduling would be preferable to allow planning for preservation month or future years.
