Pittsylvania NAACP education committee urges reestablishing minority advisory committee, praises board and staff

Eberlina Ross, vice president of the Pittsylvania County NAACP and a member of the association's education committee, addressed the school board on Sept. 9, 2025, commending recent staffing choices and urging renewed community engagement on equity issues.
Ross said the committee "would like to recognize and commend you for several positive actions and extend gratitude for the tireless dedication you have shown" and asked the board to reestablish a minority advisory committee to be an "active voice for each of the districts." She identified multiple committee members and offered the committee's willingness to meet regularly with the board.
Ross emphasized the board's responsibility to adhere to policies required by its funding sources and to prioritize students. "The most important commodity that you have, that you have oversight for, is our children. And we, like every parent or family member, only want the best for each of them," she said.
Ross also congratulated the superintendent's office on a new administrative hire and said the education committee would attend meetings monthly and work with the board to resolve concerns.
Her remarks were delivered during the public presentations portion of the meeting and were followed by routine board business.
