Santa Fe Springs Planning Commission hears developer update on Orbis site at Florence and Norwalk

Santa Fe Springs Planning Commission received a verbal update on the Orbis project, identified in the meeting as "Coontz," at the southwest corner of Florence Avenue and Norwalk Boulevard. Planning Department staff said the developer has applied two coats of white paint to an easterly wall (one coat is anti-graffiti and glossier), removed graffiti around the site perimeter, and inspected fencing for repairs.

The update noted staff identified remaining issues including torn or unsecured fencing and an illegal sign; the developer told staff those items would be addressed immediately. Landscaping and shrub maintenance have been ongoing and were reported to be in acceptable condition at the time of the report. Dust mitigation had not yet been completed; Planning Department staff said the developer committed to covering exposed soil mounds with a tarp within the next week. "They will put a tarp on the mounds that are out there within the next week," Planning Department staff said.

The commission was not presented with photographs at the meeting; staff said they will share updated photos and an update on the developer's reported efforts with the Department of Toxic Substances Control (DTSC) at the next Planning Commission meeting. There was no public comment on this item during the general public comment period.

The report to the commission was described as a verbal, non-action update: no motion, vote, or formal enforcement action was taken during the meeting. Staff indicated follow-up information (photos and a DTSC update) will be provided at the next scheduled meeting.
