The City Commission approved a three-year collective bargaining agreement between the City of Sunny Isles Beach and the Dade County Police Benevolent Association (PBA).
City leaders framed the agreement as part of a broader effort to prioritize public safety. The city manager reminded the Commission that public safety had been designated the city’s top priority and credited the department’s leadership and recruitment for enabling the city to add officers in recent years. The manager said the PBA membership overwhelmingly ratified the 2025–28 agreement and that the city would execute the signed agreement prior to Sept. 30, a manager’s office representative said.
Public comment on the resolution was supportive. Steven Hirsch, Dana Goldman and Pedro Janis each addressed the Commission, praising the police department and urging continued support for training, equipment and officer safety; Hirsch also referenced incidents outside the city to underscore the dangers officers face.
Commissioners expressed appreciation for the department’s work and congratulated officers. The resolution to approve the collective bargaining agreement was moved, seconded and approved with unanimous support.
What’s next: staff will finalize and execute the written agreement, which the city manager said would be signed before Sept. 30. The agreement’s ratification by the PBA membership was reported in the meeting packet; the Commission’s approval moves the contract to final execution and implementation steps.
