To reduce costs for the expected low‑turnout constitutional amendment election, commissioners approved consolidating polling to one site per precinct for November and approved moving Precinct 8 polling from the DAV Building to the Tennis Memorial United Methodist activity center.
Titus County will consolidate polling locations for the November constitutional amendment election, limiting voting sites to one commissioner polling location per precinct, the commissioners’ court decided Sept. 8.
Miss Wharton (the elections official who addressed the court) said amendment elections generally attract low turnout in some locations such as Sugar Hill and Piney, so the county will designate one polling place per precinct for the November amendment ballot only; voters may still cast early ballots at the county elections office. County staff will post the temporary polling locations on the county website and update the GIS overlay that shows each voter’s assigned site by address.
Separately, the court approved moving Precinct 8’s polling location from the DAV Building (formerly used for decades by some voters) to the Tennis Memorial United Methodist activity center after the DAV Building’s managers indicated they no longer wanted to host voting on Tuesdays. Miss Wharton said she had confirmed the alternate site is ADA compliant and centrally located in Precinct 8; she will post photos and map updates when available. Commissioner Applewhite moved both items; Commissioner Parker seconded both motions; both motions carried unanimously.
The court recorded that the consolidation applies only to the November constitutional amendment election; precinct polling sites will revert to regular assignments for the primary election.
